Most Likely to Succeed is a 2015 documentary film by Greg Whitely that explores how the North American education paradigm needs to change to reflect the needs of society as we enter a new millennium. Reflecting on this film, it really resonated with me how students invest their effort and energy into school just to get a grade on entrance tests so they can go on to post-secondary. There is little engagement with actual learning as it is not deemed as valuable as a competitive exam score. Personally, it makes %100 sense that our education models need to be re-imagined for the 21st century and this documentary provides a window into what that might look like by showcasing High Tech High. High Tech High is a high school that disregards rote text book learning in favour for a more hands-on and integrated approach to education. What we see in the documentary is the opportunity for the students to grow more as individuals as they navigate the challenges and opportunities they encounter as they work through projects, leading up to their community showcase.
