I recently visited family in Southern California and my aunt told me about the Self-Realization Fellowship in San Diego. I only found out about it at the end of my trip, so I did not have a chance to visit it, but hopefully I will be down there again soon so I can visit the centre.

This organization was founded by Paramahansa Yogananda, a yogi who is credited with bringing yoga to the Western World. The centre in San Diego is the third centre founded by Yogananda and was established in 1943, at the height of the Second World War. Yogananda authored Autobiography of a Yogi, published in 1946, which is a popular and well known book about spirituality and yogic teachings. My aunt actually gifted me a copy which I am very excited to read between classes and my practicum!

The organization also offers online resources and even online meditations. Their website also has lots of information about Yogananda and guided meditations that are accessible for everyone!

Below I’ve included a trailer for the 2014 documentary about Yogananda, Awake: The Life of Yogananda. This film is available on line and can be viewed on Gaia.com.
